The cookies on my website are used to ensure it functions using WordPress. These cookies cannot be switched off, because the website wouldn’t function properly without them. However, it is my understanding that these identifiers do not store any personal data.

The site also uses a number of carefully selected plugins, to improve the functionality, security and compliance of this site. As above, I understand these cookies are essential measures to keep the site safe for visitors (you), and for the quick loading and distribution of my content. Where a plugin is used, I have taken steps to ensure the use of cookies are either turned off or minimised.

Contact Form:

This site has a contact form, which you can use to send me an e-mail. I have limited the information required to use this form, but it will process your IP address, e-mail address (if you have chosen to enter it) and message contents- so please do not include any personally identifiable information in your message that you are not comfortable with sharing in this way. This information is used to send the e-mail to me, and is not stored in a WordPress contact form database.

Log Files:

This site uses log files, which includes the following information; IP address, type of browser, Internet Service Provider ( ISP ), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages and number of clicks. This information is used to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement around the site, and gather demographic information.

The above logs are generated by WordPress and it’s associated plug-ins for the purposes of maintaining the security of the site, and by the web host to secure the web server and provide basic site analytics.

Security logs are stored within WordPress for 30 days, after which point they are deleted. Visitors IP addresses are anonymised (i.e. within the WordPress logs in most cases, but in the event of a visitor connection triggering a security event (i.e. attempt to login to admin account) the IP address is logged in non-anonymised format to the server authentication log for security purposes.

Server level logs include the visitors IP address, type of browser, Internet Service Provider ( ISP ), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages and number of clicks, and are retained for 90 days, for the purpose of securing the web server and hosted sites. This helps makes the site safe for visitors to use.

There are no adverts on this site, and this site does not share information with any advertisers. yay!

Social Media:

There are no social media ‘like’ buttons on this site (they track you around the web).

The site does use an Instagram Feed plugin (19/08/18: currently disabled) to display social media content on the ‘Life’ page. As a result, this website makes requests to Instagram’s servers in order to get the data to populate the feed and to display images and videos. These requests make your IP address visible to Instagram, who may use it in accordance with their data privacy policy:

I do have good old fashioned URL links to my Twitter and Instagram pages on the top right of this site however, if you want to check those out.
