Inspired by Tamany Baker’s photographic series ‘Living With Wolfie’, my poem is a eulogy to a garden bird. The bird has a rich history in symbolism, and in this context can be seen to symbolise the flight of man’s soul from the physicality of the body. Liberation-

At the very end of my dream I stepped out into an incredible, pure white light. In that moment I became the sky, the oceans, the mountains and the breeze, and they became me. Neither future nor past mattered, for time itself had transformed. In that moment I felt love-

The cycle of life is perfectly expressed in the iconic sunflower, which produces seeds from which it is later ‘reborn’. The lotus flower rests amidst the stillness of the water, without worry or concern, just being moment by moment. This particular flower is an important symbol in Buddhism, signifying spiritual enlightenment, the personal journey to Satori and ultimately Nirvana. A quietness of heart and a stillness in dreams.
