Cookies:

The cookies on my website are used to ensure it functions using WordPress. These cookies cannot be switched off, because the website wouldn’t function properly without them. However, it is my understanding that these identifiers do not store any personal data.

The site also uses a number of carefully selected plugins, to improve the functionality, security and compliance of this site. As above, I understand these cookies are essential measures to keep the site safe for visitors (you), and for the quick loading and distribution of my content. Where a plugin is used, I have taken steps to ensure the use of cookies are either turned off or minimised.

Contact Form:

This site has a contact form, which you can use to send me an e-mail. The form processes your IP address, e-mail address and the message content. This information is used to send the e-mail to me, and is not retained in a WordPress contact form database.

The prevalence of spam online means that it is necessary to protect this site with an anti-spam plugin. I use Akismet Wordpress plugin for this, which sends the form data you enter in the contact form (that’s anything you type into the contact form boxes),along with your IP address, to the Akismet service to validate it is not spam. Log Files:

This site uses log files, which includes the following information; IP address (anonymised – 102.168.1.xxx), type of browser, Internet Service Provider ( ISP ), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages and number of clicks. This information is used for basic analytics; to analyze trends, administer the site (inc. resolving navigation errors), understand movement around the site, and anonymised demographic information.

The above logs are generated by WordPress and it’s associated plug-ins for the purposes of maintaining the security of the site, and by the web host to secure the web server and provide basic site analytics.

The server logs are stored for a maximum of 12 months, after which point they are automatically deleted. Visitors IP addresses are anonymised (i.e. 102.168.1.xxx) within the logs.

Security logs are stored within WordPress for 45 days, after which point they are deleted. Visitors IP addresses are anonymised (i.e. 102.168.1.xxx) within the WordPress logs in most cases, but in the event of a visitor connection triggering a security event (i.e. attempt to login to admin account) the IP address is logged in non-anonymised format to the server authentication log for security purposes.

Server level logs include the visitors IP address, type of browser, Internet Service Provider ( ISP ), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages and number of clicks, and are retained for 90 days, for the purpose of securing the web server and hosted sites. This helps makes the site safe for visitors to use.
